Cambodia 1995 - a Country at War

Route 69 close to the Thai border. Along this road the Khmer Rouge and the RCAF (Royal Cambodian Armed Forces) fought each other with shifting luck up through the nineties.

During the dry season the Khmer Rouge were thrown back by the heavier arms of the RCAF. With the coming of the rainy season the RCAF got stuck in the mud and the lighter KR troops advanced.

The little family on the moto are RCAF soldiers complete with wife, children and rifles heading south, away from the unstable no-mans-land.

In the background the HALO Trust is clearing landmines along the banks of the road. Note that there are 5 persons on the moto!
